Imagine your eyes are closed, music starts to run through your head... a couple of slow beats begin to vibrate through your chest, followed by a few eighth notes on the hi-hat. The pace begins to accelerate and soon you find yourself moving. Swaying from side to side, hips start ocillating, the head naturally falls into a rhythmic nod, you're now stuck in the groove. The beats, the melody and the lyrics begin swirling in your head, intentionally blended together just for you. This is Agylyty.
Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Joshua Eugene is better known as Agylyty. Recording his first track at 15, which "sounded like crap", he began watching others using programs like Acid and learned to create the tracks electronically. Realizing his passion was in writing lyrics and blasting the mic, he released his first mix CD in 2001. As diverse as the music scene itself, his father from Gulfport, Mississippi and mother from Denver, Colorado; he draws on cultural diversity and passion to create music that can only be described as heart-felt.
He dabbles in a range of genre' which allows him to masterfully create a soft jazz track that you would find yourself playing over a glass of wine, while the next track fills your soul with triumph, "Your favorite MC, this is what makes me... this shit is on fire!" It becomes quite clear Agylyty has something to bring to the table. His beats are crisp and refreshing and his lyrical prowess are hypnotic. Agylyty spends his days working for a property management company, flipping properties. After he tucks his children in, he starts burning the midnight oil, creating and engineering the tracks. Mastering the track from it's organic conception to the shrink-wrapped finished product.
Understanding that music is more than a genre, that it is more than noise, and especially more that a paycheck, he makes it clear that music is as much a part of him as the blood coursing through his veins. Donating that back to the world, the tracks he makes are overly capable of speaking to you. With a cocky line, "I make sound sound good", you can't argue with the man.
Agylyty has the talent needed to break out and hit the mainstream. The music he makes screams triumph about life and an appreciation for another day to enjoy the things that make life worth living. Unlike many of his predecessors, he doesn't come off angry or full of angst and he realizes the emotional connect that happens somewhere between the amplifier and your eardrum.
As if throwing multiple genres at you wasn't enough, don't be surprised if you hear idiosyncrasies like a bagpipe thrown into one of his tracks of the hip hop persuasion. If you were to learn that his influences of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Cranberries, Mozart and Beethoven, Snoop Dog, Cypress Hill and Rob Zombie before you hear his work, you might think that you are about to partake on a audible journey to screw your mind. Some how, he manages to mix them into a beautiful arrangement that you are sure to walk away loving.
