At first listen, soo p and the outsider have a delicate blend of both electro and rock reminiscent of Madonna in her days of Ray of Light. It's that mixture of light electro with those soft, femme vocals over a bass heavy pulse that makes soo p and the outsider such an easy listen.
Easy listening seems to be a delicacy these days with an overpowering need by most bands to shout their lyrics and mix their albums at a level above the norm, making soo p and the outsider a breath of fresh air. As Susan states, "I had originally started this project because I was in a bad place. I wasn't hearing music that I liked. Everything being pretty much the same as everything else." It was this concept that inspired singer/songwriter Susan Willis to begin the process of creating a sound that was not so much new, but was needed to separate one artist from another in the age of pop and carbon copies.
She succeeded. soo p and the outsider is an artist to watch mainly because the music they bring to the table is new and currently undefined or unrestrained by the boundaries of mainstream leaving the limit of creativity completely unconfined if they are able and willing. Can we expect to see soo p and the outsider on major retail shelves? It's hard to tell at this point as they are completely unsigned and undiscovered. With a little bit of luck on their end and a little bit of risk by a major label, soo p and the outsider could very well be the next big thing in music.
If there are any labels reading, take a risk, give them a deal and a chance, but most importantly give music listeners something new!
soo p and the outsider have yet to land a major label, but is it only a matter of time. As for now, take a listen to soo p and the outsider via myspace.
