More potent than the high-powered gift of nature that carries his namesake, homegrown Jacksonville sensation City Boy, will definitely get lifted this summer with the release of his 1st ever Mixtape/album debut, I DOIT FO MY CITY. On this musical autobiography, the 22-year-old rapper narrates his life from poverty to falling prey to dead-end recording deals to obtaining his dreams of becoming an accomplished emcee.
But even though the Southern shot caller has grown accustomed to popping tags, riding big and rocking ice, City Boy hasnt always been the flashy, fly rapper that he is today.
Born Eddie Brown in the nefarious Blodgett Homes Court housing project, City Boy grew up the 5th oldest of his mothers four boys and and five girls somewhere amongst the middle of his fathers 4 children. Although his mother did the best that she could to keep a roof over their heads, City Boy spent much of his childhood drifting from one housing complex to the next.
Im from every project, Bruh, he remembers. We kept getting evicted. Them folks kept putting us out. I done lived in Palm Terrace Homes, Hollybrook Homes, Hiltop Homes, Blodgett homes, Durkeville. You can drop me off in all the spots barefoot, and Im at home.
It was during these many moves in his teen years that he befriended the now Big Dawg Records recording artist T.J Neither of the two took music seriously at the time. City Boy didnt even consider a career in music until another one of his friends, scored platinum success.
I always loved hip hop, City Boy confesses. I would just stand on the block and everybody telling me Boy, that was tight. But after I saw the Boosies, the plies, the webbies, thats what really made me want to start doing music.
I feel like this Bruh, If other Raqppers can make they city jump then Duval Can too. All Im hearing is, to get your music out you have to get out of Jacksonville. I mean that’s probly true bruh, But we can do it here to.
